Case story

Wiener Linien / The Vienna Subway

Since 2003, Logstrup has supplied low-voltage switchboards to Wiener Linien / The Vienna subway, one of the city’s most essential and widely used public transportation systems, serving thousands of passengers daily.

The end-user

The Vienna Subway / Wiener Linien

Vienna has long been recognised as one of the world's most liveable cities, thanks in large part to its excellent public transport system, Wiener Linien. The subway, buses, and trams ensure people reach their destinations quickly and safely.

The Project

The Vienna subway network is continuously expanded and upgraded. Since 2003, SPIE CEA has been responsible for constructing, renovating, maintaining, and servicing Vienna’s subway lines. During this period, SPIE CEA installed low-voltage main distribution systems using Logstrup’s Omega system at 71 Wiener Linien sites, including over 50 subway stations and numerous workshops, depots, and operational buildings. More than 1,000 individual sections for energy distribution and control have been delivered.

The Challenge

The control rooms in subway systems are often small and hard to access, which makes installing switchboards quite challenging. These rooms need to accommodate the main switchboard and a variety of control- and automation equipment. Each room may have unique requirements, needing specific adjustments to fit its individual needs. The switchboards must be configured to allow easy movement within the room and simple equipment operation.
